Lead Guitar – Tyler Harvey
After a drawn-out and arduous auditioning process, Van Ness and Kolattukudy found Tyler Harvey, a student of Berklee College and music graduate of Case Western University. This level of training, coupled with intricate picking and aggressive harmony similar to influences such as Iced Earth and In Flames, complemented Kolattukudy’s arrangements, which were intended for dual guitars from the outset. “Tyler really took us to a whole new level,” says Kolattukudy, citing Harvey’s “tasteful harmonies and shredding leads” as an ideal balance to his own aggressive riffs.
“I began playing guitar when I was 8 years old. I was inspired by a poster of James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett playing back to back. It was then I knew I needed to become a heavy metal guitarist. Growing up, I played in various bands while having a lot of fun doing it. I took lessons, went to seminars and camps, and found the best teachers I could. I eventually found my way to Cleveland in 2007 to study jazz and classical guitar. It was three long years before I met Mark Rheaume in 2010 and began my journey with Deadiron. This band has been my life and passion since then. I’ve been chasing dreams my whole life, and I can’t see it any other way.”
