Activism

Deadiron as Activists
When we discussed the addition of an Activism section to the website, it began in jest. “We should support weird causes that don’t fit with a metal band” one member said. “End puppy mills!” someone shouted at band practice. And so, we made this Activism page and began with puppy mills. In doing so, we found that the issue of puppy mills is a current legislative concern and, shortly thereafter, there was a legislative victory on that front (see below). Though we are truly proud to have a victory on this issue, especially in our home state, we feel that it is time to take Activism more seriously as a band. Bands are in an advantageous position to be activists as they inspire fans by word and image, sight and sound. Information and inspiration are key to motivation. We wish to inspire. We wish to motivate. We are inspired by Activist bands like Rage Against the Machine, Rise Against, Henry Rollins, Anti-Flag, Radiohead, and many more. Deadiron’s role as activists will develop over time, but it starts right here. We will do our best to organize useful information, to discuss things that we think matter, to inspire, and to motivate. “An object at rest will remain at rest, and an object in motion will remain in motion…until acted upon by an unbalancing force.” [Newton's law of inertia, paraphrased] We’ll dig into important topics that we feel need to be addressed. We will find a way to get you involved. Topics to be explored: ~The gang-rapes of two students in New Delhi, India, as it relates to rape culture and hyper-masculinity in America. ~The current state and practices of over-incarceration in the US and how capitalism is involved. ~The public mass shootings that took place in the US and ideas to possibly curtail the trend of such tragedies. ~The Arab spring, the occupy movement, and the current state of things in the middle east. ~The desensitization of our society  by an over-dependence on electronic communication supplemental to that of authentic human interaction. Inform. Inspire. Motivate. -TW
